    Natural alexandrite often have natural inclusions, such as crystals, fingerprints and other inclusions present in them. If your stone is larger than one carat and has no inclusions, then it is almost certainly a synthetic. Natural alexandrite are very rare and expensive all over the world.

    Another way to look at it is if it changes color from outside (sunlight) to inside fluorescence, then it is real, if it doesn’t change color, it is not and is probably just amethyst.
