Since the gold used to make jewelry is usually added with some other metals that can easily react with moisture and oxygen in the air to ensure the durability of gold. Therefore, wear and tarnishing of gold jewelry is inevitable over time. Cleaning gold jewelry with Coke is based on the same principle as cleaning with white vinegar, by virtue of the acids they contain to remove grease and dirt from the surface of gold. So you can use a can of Coke to clean your tarnished gold jewelry.
First you can prepare about a can of Coke and pour it into a bowl, then put the gold jewelry you need to clean into the Coke and let it sit for about 10 minutes, depending on the degree of tarnishing of the jewelry. However, please note that since carbonic acid is more acidic than acetic acid, remember not to leave your gold jewelry in the cola for too long. If you can, you may want to shake the bowl every 2-3 minutes to get a fuller contact with the cola, which will allow the dirt and grease on the jewelry to be cleaned more thoroughly. Also, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the gold jewelry, which will clean the dead spots that the cola can’t reach. Finally, after you take your gold jewelry out, please remember to clean the acidic residue and the unshed tarnish from the remaining cola with cold water. Make sure to dry the jewelry with a soft cloth after cleaning.
